We’re playing from 5 pm to 6:30 pm this Thursday on the town Square in Lockhart, for their monthly Music on the Square event.

‘Last Thursday’ provides pre-party festivities for Homecoming Pep Rally

The Lockhart Business Cooperative has finalized plans for October’s Last Thursday/Music on the Square event, which will be held on Oct. 30, 2008.

Special musical guests Peas and Hominy will be on hand from 5 – 6:30 p.m., providing free entertainment on the East Lawn of the Courthouse Square, while visitors are invited to enjoy extended shopping hours at many of the Downtown Historic District’s retail stores.

After shopping and enjoying music and refreshments, visitors are invited to show their Lion Pride as they participate in Lockhart High School’s annual Homecoming Pep Rally, beginning at 7 p.m. on the West Lawn.

Music on the Square has been held each summer for the last six years, and Lockhart residents and visitors have embraced the opportunity to visit Historic Downtown Lockhart, shop, relax, enjoy live music and socialize in the shadows of the magnificently restored Caldwell County Courthouse.

This year, the Lockhart Business Cooperative renamed the event “Last Thursday” and consistently scheduled on the last Thursday of each month. During the events, shops in the Central Business Districts have opted to offer extended business hours and celebrate the event in various other ways, including offering in-store refreshments and other special promotions to encourage customers to Shop Lockhart First.

The event is co-sponsored each month by the Lockhart Business Cooperative, the City of Lockhart and the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce and Greater Caldwell County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Galveston was great… See you this Friday at El Arroyo in Bee Cave!

Saturday night in Galveston, at a little bar called Sandy’s on the other end of the Strand, we played fast and hard to a rowdy crowd of…maybe ten people. Fifteen, even. Okay, look — we were up against an important football game. Still, the people who made it out were a lot of fun, and we had a great time playing. I hope we can do it again sometime.

This Friday, we’ll play once again at the El Arroyo in Bee Cave — maybe our last time for the season, since it’s getting so much cooler (only about 95 in the afternoons now. Brrr!). Hope to see you there!

The show at El Arroyo last Saturday was great fun. This time we got some 3-year-olds dancing first; then, later in the evening, a 10-year-old…and several adults too! See, we’re working our way up in the ranks. Slowly but surely, we will overtake ALL age groups of Austin, and our shows will be all-ages dance parties to the tune of Richie Valens/Patsy Cline/Steve Earle/Emmylou Harris/the Kinks/the Everly Brothers/Hank Williams/who-else-do-we-cover? And, of course, Peas & Hominy originals!

We hope to see you at the show on Friday, September 12, once again at El Arroyo in Bee Cave. And if you’re out Galveston way, please stop in and see us on Saturday, September 6 at Sandy’s Country Store on the Strand.

Almost Showtime

Well kids, it’s almost showtime again. We’ll be tuning up tomorrow evening at 7:00, on the patio at the El Arroyo in Bee Caves. It’s actually called the Casa de Luna El Arroyo, at least on the menus- sounds fancy. Be sure and call first (512 402-0007) if the weather is acting up. I know we need it, but I never thought we would be worrying about getting rained out after we played here last month. Worried about heat stroke, maybe, but not rain.

Also, the Saturday after Labor Day, we’re taking it on the road to Galveston. We’ll be sharing the stage with my old bandmates from Tequila Mockingbird at Sandy’s Country Store at 14th and the Strand. You know the Strand district in Galveston, with all the cool shops, restaurants and clubs? Well, this is a little bit further down the road… but don’t be scared — if you’re in Galveston, come and see us! September 6th at 8:30 PM.

The July El Arroyo gig was hotter’n heck, but fun! Turns out we’re huge in France — oops, I mean, we’re huge here in the US, among the under-age-four crowd. A gang of littluns danced their booties off while we played, and they hadn’t even had anything to drink (unless there was something strange in that sippy cup…). We’re seriously considering putting out a children’s album.

Now P&H is hard at work getting our songs polished ’n’ purty for our next show — Sat. Aug. 23 at El Arroyo Bee Caves. It’s a sweaty business, but somebody’s gotta do it. We’ll post a reminder closer to the date of the show, but we hope to see you there!
